Tom McClure, MD, is Board-certified in Internal Medicine and has championed the shift from treatment-based care to a wellness and prevention model that empowers patients to adopt healthy lifestyles. He has achieved NCQA recognition for Diabetes Mellitus and Heart/Stroke and is a past member of the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners.
In his current position as Medical Director for Premium Solutions, he provides clinical oversight for Cigna’s Wellness Programs, Onsite Clinics, High Risk Patient initiatives, client and broker audits, underwriting, and case management programs. Dr. McClure is also a physician advisor and Medical Director of Client and Consultant Audits for Cigna’s Population Health and Wellness programs. Additionally, Dr. McClure serves as Medical Director for Mercer’s Health Advantage Plan and as a consultant for Axiom Health Intellect Systems, Inc.
Past positions include Medical Director for the Allegheny Medical Practice Network, Chairman of Medicine at Forbes Hospital, Chief Medical Officer at Allegheny Valley Hospital, and Medical Director of HealthAmerica’s staff model HMO. In addition to being a medical director and primary care physician throughout the Pittsburgh area, Dr. McClure chaired or was a valued member of numerous quality improvement initiatives, including the Performance Improvement Committee, High Risk Patient Care Team, Allegheny Valley Hospital’s Extended Care Facility Committee, and West Penn Allegheny Health System’s (WPAHS) Patient Centered Medical Home.
Dr. McClure has served on numerous hospital and physician network boards, including West Penn Allegheny Health System, West Penn Corporate Medical Associates, PennGroup Medical Associates, and Valley Primary Care Network. With the advent of the electronic medical record (EMR) and meaningful use, he became the chairman of WPAHS EMR Physician Advisory Council and was a physician champion for Allscripts, Sunrise, and Meditech. He was also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Temple University Medical School.
Dr. McClure received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is currently enrolled in the Data Scientist Certification Program at Johns Hopkins University. He proudly served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy.
